Overview
Maersk, one of the world's leading integrated logistics companies, adopted Meight to strengthen its road freight operations in the Iberian Peninsula. The challenge was straightforward: improve visibility and reduce the manual overhead that comes with managing large driver fleets and complex multi-stop routes.
Cristiano Sampaio, CX Manager at Maersk, summarises the impact:
"Meight supports both the improvement of operational efficiency and the reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. What's most valuable is the app that facilitates the entire process."
What changed
Before Meight, coordination between dispatch and drivers relied on phone calls and paper documents. Tracking was reactive — operators would follow up with drivers rather than having a live view of where loads were and what had been delivered.
With Meight in place:
- Drivers receive trips, stops, and documents directly on the mobile app — no phone calls needed for routine dispatching
- Proof of delivery is captured digitally at the point of delivery, eliminating paper CMR management
- Planners have a live map view of all active vehicles, reducing the time spent chasing status updates
- Route data feeds directly into fuel consumption tracking, giving the operations team actionable data on where to improve
Environmental impact
Fuel and CO2 reduction became a measurable outcome rather than a target. By optimising routes and reducing idle time through better planning, Maersk's road freight team in Portugal has been able to report on environmental performance with real operational data.
Outcome
The combination of driver app adoption and dispatch automation has reduced coordination overhead, improved document turnaround, and given Maersk a foundation for continuous improvement in its road freight sustainability goals.
