IAA Transportation Revelation in Hanover, Germany

Évora, 06th of October, 2022 — On the 20th of September, IAA Transportation, the largest European road transport fair, opened its doors. We were privileged to introduce Meight to Europe, alongside leading OEM brands, trailers, refrigerated, telemetry, transport management systems, and new technologies.

In this event, which takes place every two years, the IAA brought together thousands of visitors, mostly Transport, Logistics, and Mobility companies who saw, during the 5 days of the event, what will be the future of these sectors — and the future is electric.

We have identified 3 trends that will guide the coming years of our sector:

  • The future will be electric, more than 80% of the vehicles presented were electric units, whether chemical batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, or adapted hydrogen. However, some brands also presented new Diesel solutions, such as the case of MAN and DAF with the New Generation model DAF XD revealed during the event, which won the International Truck of the Year 2023 award.
  • The electric car is not coming anytime soon, the units presented were prototypes and/or first iterations of vehicles in production, with little robustness. In particular, it was noted the complexity and fragility of the modules presented, which in transport can represent rapid depreciation and high maintenance costs. This is a topic that was addressed during the event, and like everything else in the industry, time and scale will be needed to create more robust and reliable products.
  • All TMS and Fleet Management providers are migrating to Android and Cloud solutions, which shows Meight’s right bet on using these platforms from the beginning. Telemetry companies and management software shared a dedicated pavilion, thus showing the growing offer in this segment. The main brands of the German market were present, representing 10%.

“The event was another important presence of Meight in the German market, which is a new market for us. Especially important to be able to connect with our strategic partners, telemetry and management software companies, who use Meight’s technology to enrich their customers’ experience. We also enjoyed being able to reconnect with our Portuguese customers, who so kindly visited us at our stand and where we were able to discuss the news of this event.”
